There are two kinds of cathodes used for electrolytic extraction. One is a reusable starter plate. For example, when zinc is extracted electrolytically, aluminum plate is used as the starting plate; When extracting cobalt, stainless steel is used; When extracting copper, titanium plates are used. The other cathode is a disposable seed plate, which is removed and smelted after the same metal has been deposited on it to a certain thickness.
Electrolytic extraction of metals can be carried out in chloride electrolyte, sulfate electrolyte, and chloride sulfate mixed electrolyte.
